
NITI Aayog, or the National Institution for Transforming India, is a public policy think tank and government agency in India that focuses on economic development and cooperative federalism.
The Internship Scheme was launched by the Government of India’s NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in 2015. This program seeks to target those learners who are in recognized universities or institutions in India or outside India pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD or any other equivalent programs. The policy makes an excellent opportunity for policy and governance practice exposure and can accommodate various participants who wish to engage in important work on significant projects.
Students who Has cleared all previous years’ /semesters’ exams of the Bachelor’s Degree programme and passed the 12th standard with 85% marks and above.
Completed or appeared for first-year/2nd semester exams of a postgraduate program or pursuing research/PhD, with at least 70% marks in graduation.
Those awaiting admission for higher studies can apply if they scored at least 70% cumulative marks in graduation/post-graduation and the gap between final exam results and internship start date does not exceed six months.
The duration of the internship will therefore be between six weeks and six months. Interns who do not meet the minimum internship duration will not be issued a certificate.
Upon successful completion of the internship, a certificate will be issued by the Adviser of the respective Subject Division in the prescribed format (Annexure 'B').
Interns are required to bring their own laptops. NITI Aayog will provide a working space, internet access, and other necessary facilities as deemed appropriate by the respective Heads.
Applicants must apply online via the NITI Aayog website between the 1st and 10th of each month.
Applications can be made up to six months in advance, but no later than two months before the desired internship month.
Applicants must clearly mention their area of interest.
Each candidate can apply for only one internship per financial year.
Applications that do not meet eligibility criteria will be automatically rejected.
Selected candidates must submit original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institution at the time of joining, or their candidature will be canceled.
Online applications will be reviewed by the concerned Heads of Verticals/Units/Divisions, OSDs, and Consultants at NITI Aayog for candidate eligibility and selection.
Each vertical/division may select up to 3 interns at a time, with the possibility of increasing this number with CEO approval. The Adviser’s decision regarding candidate suitability is final.
Selected candidates must submit a soft copy of the NOC from their institution before receiving the offer letter. The NOC must confirm that the candidate will not be registered for any courses during the internship. The original NOC and eligibility documents must be verified upon joining.
The list of selected candidates will be uploaded on NITI Aayog’s website.
NITI Aayog reserves the right to adjust eligibility criteria, limit the number of applicants, and determine the screening process based on the number of applications.
Interns must submit a report on their learning experience at the end of the internship. Seminars and presentations may be held for interns.
Interns must maintain at least 75% attendance and record their In/Out times daily. Failure to meet the attendance requirement will result in no extension or experience certificate.
The conduct of interns and their access to data are the responsibility of the concerned Advisers/Heads.
NITI Aayog may review and update the scheme at any time, and the updated version will be posted on its website.
The CEO of NITI Aayog has the authority to relax any conditions for deserving candidates.
