Justice Venkatesh of Madras HC shifted to Madurai bench

One-liner: Justice N Anand Venkatesh of the Madras HC, who had initiated a batch of suo motu revision petitions against the discharge of six sitting as well as former TN ministers in cases of disproportionate assets and other cases, will sit at the Madurai Bench for the next three months.

New roster: According to the new roster that was notified on the official website of the Madras HC on Friday, Justice Venkatesh will be in Madurai with effect from Oct 3, presiding over cases pertaining to writ petitions relating to general miscellaneous, mines and minerals, land reforms, land tenancy, urban land ceiling, etc.

Portfolio change: As per the roster that was decided by Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala, Justice G Jayachandran has been given the portfolio of cases pertaining to MPs and MLAs that was earlier with Justice Venkatesh. 

  • The suo motu petitions initiated by Justice Venkatesh, therefore, will now be heard by Justice Jayachandran

11 judges shifted: Justice Venkatesh is among the 11 judges who have been shifted to Madurai from the principal bench in Chennai to hold sitting there from Oct 3 to Dec 22.

Regular feature: The High Court Registry said it is a regular feature for the Madras HC to keep shuffling the allocation of portfolio of judges once every three months.
