HC closes cases on police complaints panel

One-liner: The petitions relating to Police Complaints Committee were closed by the first bench of Madras HC on Friday.

SC monitoring: This is following a submission from the Advocate-General that since the SC was monitoring the matter, the HC need not pursue the same any more.

PIL petitions: The PIL petitions from retired IPS officer A G Mourya and one Saravanan Dakshinamurthy came up for further hearing on Friday.

Directives: Contending that the panels should be headed only by retired judges of HC and the District Courts, as per the directives of the SC, the duo had moved the HC with the present PILs.

Matter closed: The bench closed the matter after granting liberty to the petitioners to move the SC with their plea, if they so desired.
