Sexual assault of junior: Bail of lawyer rejected

One-liner: The office of a lawyer is not less respected than a court of law, the Allahabad HC observed on Thursday. 

Bail rejected: The HC said this while rejecting the bail application of an advocate accused of sexually assaulting his junior.

Allegations: The allegations are against a person practising law in uniform and who is involved in a noble profession, a judge observed.

Named in FIR: It is evident the applicant is named in the FIR in the statements of the victim recorded under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the court said.

Sexual assault: The allegations are of sexual assault and physical assault upon her, which had continued for a substantially long period. 

HC lawyer: There has been no reason spelt out as to why the applicant is being falsely implicated, it remarked, rejecting the bail application of HC lawyer Rajkaran Patel.

• The counsel for the applicant contended Patel has falsely been implicated 

Law student exploited: However, the state counsel opposed the bail application, saying the advocate has exploited a law student on the pretext of imparting legal training to her.
