One-liner: The Assam govt will file an Interlocutory Application in SC for providing Aadhaar to the National Register of Citizens applicants whose biometrics have been locked while updating the NRC document.

Cabinet meeting: The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati on Wednesday.

To benefit people: This, he said, will benefit a large section of people below the poverty line, students, pensioners, and job seekers who do not have Aadhaar cards.

27 lakh submit biometrics: Over 27 lakh NRC applicants in the state had submitted their biometrics during the claims and objections phase for updating the state's NRC.

19 lakh not in final draft: Of these 19 lakh names were not included in the final draft of the NRC published on Aug 31, 2019, and these people are now facing problems in generating Aadhaar.

Targeted subsidy: The meeting approved a targeted subsidy for low-end power consumers from May 10, 2022, which will benefit around 60 lakh households in the state, an official said.
