In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Delhi High Court Bar Association Elections 2025, the Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers (FICL) had the opportunity to interview Vivek Sood, Sr. Advocate for President of Delhi High Court Bar Association Elections 2025.
With a proven track record of leadership and advocacy within the legal community, Vivek shares his motivations for running, his vision for the Bar's future, and the key issues he plans to address if elected. In this candid discussion, he outlines the reforms he aims to implement, fostering a more dynamic and supportive environment for legal practitioners at the Delhi High Court.
What are your key priorities and vision for the Delhi High Court Bar Association if you are elected as President?
If elected as President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, my key priorities will focus on promoting equal opportunities for young first-generation lawyers. I will advocate for improved infrastructure in the Delhi High Court, including upgraded chambers, better Internet connectivity, and the addition of at least five large Bar rooms for discussions. Regular general body meetings will be held to facilitate debates on pressing issues and foster collective decision-making. Additionally, I will work to create a level playing field for female lawyers in their designation and elevation as judges of the High Court.
How do you plan to address the challenges faced by young lawyers, especially in terms of mentorship, professional growth, and financial sustainability?
To support young lawyers, especially first-generation ones, I plan to implement several initiatives. I will establish regular mentoring programs to connect them with experienced lawyers and help them secure positions in reputable chambers and law firms. Iβll advocate for prioritising local commission appointments and opportunities to work on amicus briefs and legal aid cases. To ease their financial burden, I propose zero subscription fees for the first two years of DHCBA membership. Lastly, I will create a structured redressal mechanism to address the challenges they face. These steps aim to promote their professional growth and financial sustainability in the legal field.
What specific steps will you take to improve the infrastructure and facilities at the Delhi High Court, including better access to technology and resources for lawyers?
In order to improve the infrastructure and facilities at the Delhi High Court, I will take specific steps to enhance access for lawyers. This includes increasing the number of chambers available, adding at least five more large-sized Bar rooms within the High Court campus for lawyers and litigants, and ensuring the best possible telecom and Internet connectivity. These enhancements will create a more efficient and supportive environment for legal professionals and their clients.
How do you intend to strengthen the relationship between the Bar and the Bench, ensuring smooth communication and addressing any concerns raised by the legal fraternity?
I believe in maintaining a cordial dialogue until the issues affecting the Bar are resolved. However, if concerns persist, I will advocate strongly for justice on behalf of the Bar. This balanced approach ensures that we address concerns while fostering collaboration and mutual respect.
What are your proposals for enhancing the welfare and support programs for lawyers, especially in light of the challenges brought about by the pandemic and other professional pressures?
In light of pandemic-related challenges to enhance welfare and support programs for lawyers, we should focus on a few key proposals. First, we need to educate young lawyers about the realities of the profession, including the growing number of lawyers entering the field. Itβs essential to highlight the importance of specialisation in emerging areas of law and the dedication required for success in litigation. By providing resources, workshops, and mentorship programs, we can equip young lawyers with the skills they need to thrive, fostering resilience and professional growth within our legal community.
